Take the free hotel shuttle to ORD and catch the Blue line train to downtown. ~45-50 minutes on the train for (I believe) $1.75 one way. There are multi day passes available.

Since you're here for a weekend, the two of you may want to buy a 1-day CTA fun pass at any currency exchange - I believe they're $5. This will save you a lot if you plan to spend your entire day in the city. That way you can hop on and off buses and not tire yourself out too much.

You should look into day-of show tickets for Steppenwolf's "Diary of Anne Frank" or "BEtrayal." No shows on 5/5, but on 5/6 there are performances at 3pm.

YOu can easily spend all day shopping and eating along Michigan Avenue, but you may want to look into going into Lincoln Park for a more neighborhood feel. Good shopping, restaurants and atmosphere on Southport (3400N to 3800N) or along Armitage Ave (west of Halsted for about 5 blocks) and on Halsted itself (from Armitage = 1800 N - 2400 N).

If there are any specific cuisines you enjoy, you may want to ask that, too. So many restaurants in Chicago, that narrowing down your likes/dislikes will provide some answers.

Hope you have a great time in Chicago!

If the hotel shuttle will drop you at the Rosemont station, it would be much quicker than sitting in traffic to go to ORD. You can also purchase visitor passes from the vending machine at the Rosemont station. It accepts cash and plastic.

If the weather is nice, you could walk from your hotel, it's two very long blocks and not especially scenic, but not a bad walk.
