Call university housing and ask about the B&B's in the neighborhood run by professors. We stayed in one that was wonderful in Kenwood, which is a pleasant walk from campus.
Wooded Isle Suites is a possibility, also. It is very near campus. We've also stayed there and liked that. It isn't the ritz but is just fine. It is on Stony Island Ave between the Museum of Science and Industry and campus. In summer, the university used to put people up in on-campus housing. Ask about that possibility also if the above fails. (We've stayed there too, at the School for Social Services Administration. They used to have dorms and maybe still do.) Mostly, we stay with my Mom. Personally, I would not stay at the Ramada Inn - Lake Shore. If all else fails, stay in the loop. |
PS. Checked out your previous postings and am quite confused. Are you the 17 yr old high school senior looking for a place to study in France next summer or are you the senior citizen nearing retirement? What is your interest in the U of C?

I am approaching retirement AND I have a 17 yr old daughter

If this is your first time in Chicago I would stay downtown and take public transportation to U.of Chicago. You'll get more of a taste for the whole.
My nephew went to U.of C. and lives in Hyde Park now and works downtown. Hyde Park is not that large, but you may want to visit the Mus.of Sc.& Industry too- if you have time. Hotel choices are much greater downtown and you will get immensely more for your lodging dollar. Chicago has some great deals on Priceline right now. |
Oh! I understand. I hope you find a good place to stay. I do think the Hyde Park choices I gave earlier are good, if you can get into them. It's about a 15 to 20 minute drive to the loop, and can be longer at rush hour.
