Is Midway or Ohare better for a downtown stay in Chicago (near the convention center)
Thanks!
|
midway is closer to downtown---
but I think it is only a 10 or so minute travel distance ---I am by far no expert but We just flew into Midway and it didn't take more than 25 mins to be in downtown

JJason,
Depends on where your hotel is, and if you are driving or taking the train from either airport. The train from Midway ( orange line) gets you closer into downtown. Both airports have excellent train service into downtown Chicago.

Hope this helps!

Wondering if you mean convention center in suburban Rosemont (Donald E. Stephens)? O'Hare is right next door to Rosemont.
|
THE convention center, as in McCormick Place, on South Lake Shore Drive.
|
If it's McCormick Place, fly into Midway (20 minute trip).
|
Midway is a smaller airport - Flights on on time more and it is easier to check-in and get through security. plus you are closer to McCormick

thanks guys. Found out it was Donald Stephens convention center. We'll be staying at the Holiday
Inn Select there from Sat until Wed. Is there anything to do in that vicinity? I am probably going to go downtown but was wondering if you locals can recommend anything nearby.

JJason, I am not really familiar with the area...it's in rosemont ( suburb), which is where the airport is. There are tons of hotels and restuarants in the vicinity, but no night life..Your best bet would be to hop on the blue line into downtown..Its about a 20-25 minute commute. From the blue line, you can connect to the other different lines to get to different parts of the city...Best bet, take the blue line to the red line, switch and take that to Michigan ave.

Fly into ohare if you are going to be in Rosemont. There is nothing to do in rosemont unless you want to hang out in hotel bars. Hop on the Blue line and head downtown. If you want to stop in a cool neighboorhood with lots of nightlife - Get off at the Damen El stop. This is wicker park - it is not downtown, but if you want alot of nightlife this is a great spot-younger crowds, many bars in this area are open till 4. If you keep going - get off at state and lake(you are now downtown). Then Head north across the river, this is where lots of Night Clubs and resturants are.

correction - get off at Clark and Lake for downtown
