Chicago - 2 nights - where to eat!
 

Hi - will be in Chicago next week for 2 nights. Staying at The Fairmont Chicago hotel on North Columbus drive.

Do not eat meat (fish ok).

Any MUST restaurants?

Prefer in area of hotel but do not mind a short cab ride.

what kind of food?

Here's a few suggestions:
1. Pizza, original Uno's
2. German - name escapes me but it's downtown and been around for approx. 100 yrs (someone on here can help or ask anyone once you're downtown)
3. Chop House for steak
4. Cheescake Factory (I know it's a chain but it's in the John Hancock building & the view from the observatory is a must)
5. Billy Goat Inn "Cheesburger Cheesburger...Belushi/Ackrowd fame)

Any type of food keeping in mind that we are not meat eaters.

Budget is not an issue.

You can literally find hundreds of wonderful restaurants to choose from. I don't see how it would be any more reasonable for someone else to tell you where to eat, than to tell you what to wear to work. :)

You can check out www.metromix.com for restaurant ideas, or if you can come up with some more specific desires, I'm sure people can help.

Are you looking to dine in the hottest "spots to be seen"? Do you want to try Chicago pizza?

In other words, what do you want out of the meal?

Allen's New American Cafe
MK

All will have vegetarian options and fish entrees. All are excellent.

A great new restaurant just opened called the Green Zebra. The chef owner is Shawn McClain from Spring (excellent as well). It has a fantastic vegetarian menu. Check out the review on Metromix.com.

Other faves that would suit you...

MK (save room for desserts and request a table on the railing upstairs to see the scene)
NoMi (if weather is nice, great terrace for drinks before/after dinner! Request a window table to see the Water tower and up and down Mich Ave)
RL and Bistro 110(more for lunch)
Japonais (trendy but good)
Boka (especially if weather is nice, fabulous garden patio)

Again, I would check out Metromix.com for reviews and suggestions and call for reservations ASAP!

If you want a fun, more casual option, Cafe Iberico at 739 N. LaSalle for Spanish tapas has several delicious non meat selections. And Green Zebra, mentioned by Kristy with a y, is supposed to one of the hot new places in town and it specifically serves vegetarian cuisine.

Chicgal, I've never eaten at the Cape Cod Room at the Drake but the prices seemed really high when I looked at the menu at Christmas time. $32-$33 for crab cakes or Coconut Shrimp? Is the food that much better than other seafood places in Chicago? I guess at the time I thought that the prices were the artificially high hotel prices. I suppose my questions aren't relevant though if they are on an expense account :-)
