Cherry Blossoms
The Park Service predicts the D.C. Cherry blossoms in the Tidal Basin will be at their peak March 17-20. Make your plans.

Hopefully they won't have a mid-March snowstorm and resulting frost that kills them all, like last year.
|
Thanks for the update!
>>>>Hopefully they won't have a mid-March snowstorm and resulting frost that kills them all, like last year.<<<< They took a battering last year but about half of the blossoms persevered. I too hope the weather is more blossom friendly this month. Part of the issue in 2017 was an unusually warm February which caused some of the buds to form and mature earlier than normal. It was the early ones that got nailed when March brought ice and freezing temps. Fingers crossed! |

You have a funny view of half. We were there the week after and it was barren. |
Will yesterday’s wind storm haveany effect?

Local news is saying that a handful got damaged and that the NPS will assess further today. I was on the mall at the Lincoln Memorial end of West Potomac Park this morning and saw some downed limbs but no uprooted trees. It's still pretty gusty out there.
You might want to wait for BR to check back in and give you the real scoop. ;) |
Maybe a few will hang on through the 24th??

Please update---How are the cherry blossoms doing these days. We plan to be see them first week of April. Hope they are still beautiful.
Thanks |
The cherry trees are at peak here in SE Virginia so I imagine they will be beautiful in the next few days in DC. They are as full and gorgeous as I've ever seen them. It must be something about this year's weather that they liked. I hope you were able to see a nice show of blossoms, ileen,

Just came from a morning stroll around the Tidal Basin today and the blossoms are currently at its peak. It's a bit cooler this morning than past years around cherry blossom season but pleasant nonetheless.
