Cherry Blossom Time
Over the years I've heard so much about the beauty of Washington at cherry blossom time. I'd love to see it and am planning a long weekend there just for that reason. Can anyone please tell me what time of the year this occurs? Is it in May (middle - end?) I'd hate to get there and find I'm too early or too late!

Thanks so much

Angelica

Angelica,
They best time to go is the last two weekends in April. May will be too late for the Cherry Blossoms, and it tends to get VERY hot and humid in DC then!

Mid-April sounds right, but the local tourist organizations run all sorts of computer models -- based on rainfall, etc. -- to determine when the cherry blossoms are at their peak. Sorry, I can't tell you where to get that info, but there must be a Web site somewhere.

May is definitely too late for the cherry blossoms! My recollection is that they usually bloom the last week of March or the first week of April, but as Jim notes it does vary from year to year (and sometimes they don't last very long).
