Cheeca Lodge
 

Has anyone stayed at this resort lately? Would appreciate any feedback. We're considering a week there in January with our teenage son.

If you go, please let us know how it was. I always wanted to go there. It sounds absolutely wonderful!

My husband and I were there several years ago and liked it a lot. I think it's been completely renovated since then. The only problem is that if you want a waterfront unit, it's LOTS more expensive. As I recall we paid somewhere around $400 a night.

Before going to the Keys last December, I was trying to decide between the Cheeca Lodge and the Chesapeake Resort. Decided on the Chesapeake due to a lower price and it was the right choice. The Chesapeake is a beautiful little resort where about 80% of the rooms are oceanfront with incredible postcard views from your windows and balconies. It also has little one and two bedroom cottages that look like an island paradise. There is a beautiful lagoon (for fishing) and sandy beaches with hammocks, plus two heated pools. The staff was very kind- we loved it. Great for families. <BR> <BR>I went to look at Cheeca while we were there. I would say that 10% or less of the rooms are oceanfront. Many of the other room aren't even within walking distance of the beach, rather they are in a lightly wooded area. There is probably is a shuttle that can take you to the beach. It looks like a pretty place, but when I'm near the beach, I want to be ON the beach!!

Maggie - I wouldn't consider the Cheeca Lodge a good honeymoon location, but think the Moorings (next door) would be wonderful. Another great option would be to drive a couple of hours south to Key West and stay at the Marquesa Hotel or Heron House.

Wedding at Cheeca? Is it pretty? You can't always go by the brochures. Sorry I wasn't clear in my earlier posting - what about Cheeca as a location for a small wedding? The wedding party are active people and will probably go down early to fish, snorkel, etc. Not planning to have Cheeca for the honeymoon/. Anyone eaten at Atlantic's Edge lately? Any spectacular restaurnants and /or inexpenxive fun places to eat in the area?

It has been several years since we were there but we loved it--and you definitely CAN walk to the beach from the back units unless they have reconfigured the Keys. I think it would be classy and neat as a wedding site.

My husband and I spent five days at the Cheeca Lodge and loved every minute!! We had a great one-bed/living room/kitchen unit. You're right--not every unit has an ocean view. But the path out front winds its way to the Lodge, beach and fishing pier. This is truly a "keys experience"--4 star but with a fishing camp atmosphere. Cute par 3 golf course. I like the fact that you don't feel "cheap" by not ordering room service for in-room snacks. You can shop at the Trading Post across the street for wine/gormet sandwiches and desserts!! Two great restaurants within walking distance--Morada Bay and Pierre's. Both have fantastic sunset views!! Walk over order a drink and sit yourself down in an adorondick chair and watch the sun set. That's what a keys vacation is all about--fishing, golfing, sunning and eating!!
