Checkin Luggage For Connecting Flight?
I'm taking a flight from NY to Las Vegas, with a connecting flight in Cincinnati which departs about 50 minutes after the plane lands from NY. Do you think its too risky, not enough time for check in baggage to be transferred to the plane in Cinn? Would it pay to possibly try and carry on in a small bag my belongings? Also would bringing an electric razor on board pose any problems?
Thanks!

I was told by an airline, if you have at least 15 minutes between flights your luggage SHOULD get on your flight.

50 minutes is standard. Shouldn't be a problem unless the flight from NY is late. Fortunately, the airlines are doing a good job post-9/11 with on-time arrivals.

An electric razor should get onboard with no funny looks from security but I'd check the Delta website just in case.

Thanks for your responses!

Electric razors are fine - razors with a blade (even the diposable ones with embedded blade) are not okay.

50 minutes should not be a problem.

It is always a wise choice to pack absolute essentials in a carry on just in case you luggage gets lost. Critical medications, spare contact lenses, eyeglasses, other key toiletries, should be carried on.

Our flight which connected in Detroit yesterday only had 30 minutes to spare originally, and then the passenger ramp to the plane jammed. We walked off that plane with 5 minutes for our next plane to depart. After running to the gate, we found our plane was waiting for its connecting passengers but left the ground only 20 minutes late. So with about 25 minutes between flights, we were sure our luggage wouldn't make it. It did. We were on Northwest.

Two months ago connecting in Denver, flying United, we had 45 minutes between landing and leaving, and the luggage didn't make it. United delivered it to us the next morning. We live two hours from the airport. The bags arrived just in time for my boys' golf game with their team that afternoon, and their shoes were in the luggage. They were sweating that one.

You just never know, but I tell my kids that if there is really something they can't live without, they'd better carry it with them.
