Cheap, tasty food in Vegas?

Any advice on where to get relatively inexpensive, but tasty food in Vegas?

Not opposed to chains (Panera & Baja Fresh = yes, Taco Bell & McDonalds = no), but local places are good too.

The only catch is that it will probably have to be along the strip as my friends don't have a car.

Thanks!

The Strip is several miles long. If you'll tell us which hotel you plan to be at, we can recommend some places to eat on the cheap.

You might want to take a look at www.cheapovegas.com for some ideas.

Take the Gold Coast shuttle bus from center strip(Barbary Coast Hotel) and you can dine at their cheapo-but-decent buffet, their excellent chinese restaurant, their coffee shop (features a $9.95 t bone complete dinner) or their underpriced Steakhouse.
The Gold Coast is next to the Rio and the Palms, Palms has a decent buffet too, fairly cheap.

Mmmm...for my money, I vote In-N-Out Burger. I know it's a chain, but only in the far western states so it was a very novel discovery for my southern family...we ate there like three times in one week. There's one very far south on the strip (or it may be just off strip) and we had a car so we mostly went to the one behind the UNLV campus on some parkway...Maryland?? It's a long stretch of road that parallels the strip and runs by UNLV...any good map will have it. Any a fodor's guide to Las Vegas should tell you where all of them are. It will also tell you about other cheap eating places.

The Barbary Coast is now Bill's Gambling Hall and Saloon (or something like that) - does the shuttle still run from there to the Gold Coast?

I had assumed it stopped, but would be glad to hear it's still running.

Try the Peppermill for a slice of old Las Vegas. It is on the north end of the strip by the Riviera. Huge portions (split the fruit salad between the entire table) and tasty food for all to enjoy. Also the bar in the back has a cool retro look for a drink with an umbrella in it.

Battisa's Hole in the Wall- it's behind the Orleans, I think- they have a website with their location. It's good traditional Italian restaurant fare.

Wow! Thanks guys. They're staying at the Luxor, but i know they want to see the Strip so pretty much any good, cheap places that are in touristy spots would work.

While they're at the Luxor, if looking for quick cheap eats, there's a food court on the gaming level, on the west side.

I guess that cheap is relative...

I like a light dinner or decent sized lunch at the Brew Pub in Monte Carlo. hot sandwich, fries, beer will run you about $9.00 plus tip. This is comparable to the same meal at the Luxor coffee shop but much superior at MC.

The buffet at Orleans always gets high marks for quality and low price. I like it when I am in a buffet type mood.

Go to www.lasvegasadvisor.com great site with tips and a top 10 meal deals updated monthly, has a forum as well.

The other one is www.cheapovegas.com Also a good site with reviews and humor.

California Pizza Kitchen in the Mirage is pretty tasty.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Ellis Island. It is one block off the strip near Bally's. The $4.99 steak dinner is a steal. They also have buck microbrew beer that is very good.
