Cheap shopping suggestions?

Hi, it's my first time to NY on Wed. (from Hawaii, yikes!) and wondering if anyone has suggestions on an area or certain store that has inexpensive clothes/shoes. I don't care about designer, just cute and affordable. Also, if there is a fun, must-vist, memorable bar/lounge, any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!

H & M is a clothing store with several locations that has up to the minute styles at great prices. Century 21 is in lower Manhattan & has great discounted designer clothes. Daffy's also has great bargains with more than one location (one's near Bloomindale's).

If you are looking for a New York experience with cheaper shopping, try Orchard street and the lower east side. It is mostly knock-offs and some seconds, but you can get good stuff for a good price. The street is closed off on Sunday to vehicles. It makes a fun half-day excursion. Just remember, most of these stores will be closed on saturday. I agree with mclaurie, the stores mentioned are all good choices. Don't forget some of the old standards - there are bargains to be had at Macy's and Lord & Taylor's. They're just alittle harder to find and it takes more time. 8th street is also a fun place to shop for "trendy" clothes, but it is a little more expensive.
A memorable bar/lounge is Chumley's - an old speak-easy on Bedford and Barrow. Old Town Bar near Union Square. McSorley's in the east village. Interesting eats and drinks from the Drag Queens at Lucky Chengs.

Thank you so much! I appreciate your suggestions and will definitely check them out!

You'll probably do fine at the major deparment stores (Macy's, Lord & Taylor, Bloomingdale's, Saks, etc.). They are all having big sales. And, since we're having a major blizzard today, I'm sure the Presidents' Day sale prices will still be there on Wednesday.

Check out the two Filene's Basement locations. You can find some great deals on name brand items.

Added advice: We have about 2 feet of snow here. Dress accordingly. Coming from Hawaii, it might be culture shock for you!

I am heading to NY in May. Any new discount/inexpensive/reasonably priced stores open up?

Boltons has multiple locations around town. I've found some unique and discounted things over the years.

Century 21 is good, too.
