Cheap place to stay in Key West

Wondering if anyone knows a REALLY cheap place to stay in Key West. I did a search, but all the recommendations are for over $100 a night. I will have a car, and am familiar with the place - there is no such thing as a bad area to me there.

Thanks for your help.

do a text search for key west, someone posted a nice recommendation of a small b&b that they discovered in the area accidently. The rooms were nice and it was under 50.00 a night. I think it was called the artists house....

it is topped for you under the heading 49.99 a night. The artist house got slammed on this board and the name of the hotel I was thinking of is the Caribbean House.

Thanks MH. I did do a search but didn't find this. I appreciate your pulling it up. I also found the Seashell motel online. Anyone have any experience with it?

Charles - if you can swing a bit more than the going rate at Carribean House, I'd suggest that you check out Jasmine House. It's a bit nice location and the rooms are much nicer - also has pool access. I've stayed there twice and really liked it. The owner also tends to be flexible about possible discounts if you're not staying at a peak travel time and staying for more than one night.

Thank you for the suggestion Owen. The site looks good and I will look into it. The pool etc. isn't that important - I'm driving down for the night from Miami. But my girlfriend tends to be happier in cuter places. I, on the other hand, care only about cheap, clean, safe, and comfortable beds. Motel 6 in a word. THough I'd gladly stay in nicer places, it pains me to pay for them.

If your girlfriend loves "cute" places then definitely spring for Jasmine House. You can probably get one of the "porchside" rooms for $69 per night off-peak and it's well worth the extra $$ over Caribbean House from a comfort and aesthetics standard. I have stayed there on two separate occasions with two different lady friends (several years apart) and they both loved it.

I'd recommend La Pensione, for $88 a night if you've got AAA. Your girlfriend would likely love this historic B&B. Breakfast (pecan waffles!) is great.

La Pensione is really nice. The owners are great!
