Cheap parking in Sacramento?

I am attending an event at the Convention Center for multiple days and would like to avoid the costly parking situation, if at all possible. Does anyone know of any reasonable (or daresay, free!) parking in the area? I am willing to walk a ways, as long as the area's safe. Thanks for any advice

Parking in Sacraamento isn't that bad. Many places run $7 to $10 per day if you park before 9:00 a.m.. But if you want to park for free - head out east or north from town and park at one of several Light Rail stations. Places like Swanston, Roseville Rd, or Bradshaw have huge free parking lots and trains into town every 15 minites. a day pass for light rail runs $3.50 so you really won't save that much.

Where are you staying?

meant to add - don't try to park in mid town on the streets - you'd need a resident's parking pass to leave the car all day . . . . .

Thanks, Janis. I am staying at Extended Stay/Arden Way, so may drop off the crew I'm traveling with at the Convention Center, then park. We'll be at the Conv Ctr for over a week, so the local parking garages would get costly. I had heard it was $18 a day...$7-10 isn't so bad, and I wonder if some have a weekly rate.

No weekly's that I know of - but most of the private lots downtown will have sandwich boards out on the sidewalk before 9:00 or 9:30 a.m. listing their early bird rates. Most of the city owned only do by the hour so after about 8 hours you are better off just doing an all day rate at one of the private ones. There is one city lot that only has day rates. It used to be $7 but I seem to remember it recently went up to $9. It is a surface lot at 7th and L streets. The entrance is on 7th st. It is a pay as you enter lot and is a 6 block walk from the convention center.

The Swanston Lightrail station is less than a mile from your hotel.

ttt just in case

Ignore my recommendation about the city surface lot at 7th and L sts. There has been talk about closing that lot for more than 15 years - and they finally did about a week ago. Bad timing . . . .
