cheap car rental Kauai, any opinions on Rent-a-wreck?

I'm looking for a cheap compact car for a week in late March. Alamo seems to be the best deal I've found but I haven't called Rent-a-wreck yet.

Has anyone used them recently? I know they are not on-site at the airport but their website says they offer a shuttle. A post on this forum said that you had to find your own way to/from the airport. Which is really true?

Also since we have a layover it looks like the Rent-a-wreck office is walking distance from the Marriot, is that accurate?

Already dreaming about those Mai Tais!

Hi,
I recently bid on a compact car for Kauai for 3 weeks in Feb and got it for
$17/day through Priceline. You might try checking it, as well as Hotwire.com.

$17/day! Drat. We should have bid lower! Though we were happy with our $20/day. Priceline's definitely the way to go in Kauai.

ncl,
Yeah, it's hard to know what to bid, but I took a chance after looking at hotwire, where they were offering a compact for 17.95/day. I also looked at biddingfortravel.com and someone had gotten a 17/day bid on Kauai so I took a chance. Happy I was successful.

agreed - Priceline is the way to go. We got a Geo Metro for $16/day from National. Great deal!

Well, I had friends who used Rent-a-Wreck in Arizona and were very satisfied with the car and the service provided, but I can't help you with Kauai, I'm afraid. Good luck!

The other thing is there are discount codes that can really lower the price. Someone else here posted about an Alamo discount code (I think it was MC) on a thread about long term rentals. There are also discount codes posted on biddingfortravel.com
