Cheap Airfair

Anybody out there have a feel for if the airline prices are going to go down. We are going to the BI and Oahu June 12-26 and have been waiting (maybe foolishly) for some bargains. 3 years ago we did this same trip at the same time and waited to book the 2nd week in Feb. However, jet fuel prices 3 years ago were not as much an issue. Any thoughts?

What are the prices you're finding? You will be traveling durig high season so I don't know how good the savings will be. www.pandaonline.com offers comsolidated airfare for Hawaiian Airlines. Have had pretty good luck with them in the past. In general, one way fares between the islands will cost around $75 one way, $150 RT.

The airfair I am most concerned about is the major one from Raleigh to Honolulu. What I am seeing is 700-800. Three years ago it was 570$ total tax and fees. We will do this trip no matter because it is for our anniversary but we are taking along someone who will have to pay their own airfair and were trying to cut down on the cost.

If you leave HNL 6/27 and arrive home 6/28, then you save about $60 for total price of $662 on USAirways/America West. Not far from the pirce you paid three years ago.

marymg, there have been some articles that airfare to Hawaii is high this season as not only are a lot of US residents going to Hawaii but people in Asia are also and consequently Hawaii is not a bargain.

But Asian people fly from Asia to HNL, mostly on Asian Airlines (except some NW/CO flights from Japan). That should have little to do with airfares from RDU, or the rest of the US, to Hawaii.

Good airline prices come and go quickly so you have to be prepared to grab them. Last week I booked Cincinnati-Honolulu for late June travel on Northwest at $377 RT for our kids. This week the same flights go for over $1300. In early December I got Continental flights from Philadelphia - HNL for $450RT. (also for June travel) Set up fare alerts with Travelocity and use sites like Yahoo Farechase, kayak and Sidestep to do daily searches.

The best airfares I have found have been on www.airfaretohawaii.com.

April fare is down to $600 but that's not "high season", I don't think it will go much less than $700 for June especially with gas prices climbing again, and Iran likely to cut off our oil.

You might try to save your traveling partner money by booking moderate instead of luxury accomodations. Since you are going for 14 nights, even finding a place that's just $20 less per night will save them $300.
