Chaya in San Fran?

Has anyone heard of this restaurant? Our hotel concierge recommended it for dinner and I'm looking for any feedback you might have. Didn't see it listed in fodor's list of restaurants . . .

Thanks!

It's called Chaya Brasserie -- it's on the Embaracadero and has great views. Thre are 2 others in LA. The food is OK, but there are other places nearby I'd recommend more highly.

Here's link to the SF Chronicle review from nearly 3 years ago, when the local economy was still booming:
http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cg...&type=food

Thanks tpl!! For some reason, I'm never quiet comfortable trying a restaurant based solely on a rec. from a concierge! We might try something else . . . .

Hi Kelly,

If you want to stay in the neighborhood, I really like Boulevard and Kokkari. Have fun!

Thanks--I'll definitely look into those two options; I think we do want to stay in the neighborhood because its a part of San Francisco we haven't spent much time in. Thanks again for your insights!

Boulevard and Kokkari are great! For very good dim sum I would also recommend Yank Sing in the Rincon Annex.

I enjoyed Chaya, but it doesn't hold a candle to Boulevard. Another good place right on that block is Ozumo - if you like sushi. The last time I was there, they were playing a Japanese language tape in the restroom. You know, where they say the word or phrase in English, then in Japanese, so you can repeat it. It was a nice touch.

Also, Shanghai 1930 is a great place to grab a drink. I've only had appetizers, which were fine, but I've heard a lot of people are disappointed with the food.
