Chautauqua Lake in NY?

I'm heading down to Chautauqua Lake for the day from Buffalo and I've never been before. Does anyone have a good suggestion on where to have lunch? Also, is there a place to rent canoes or kayaks?

Thanks!

Hey, kcapuani, I see (from your previous posts) that you're newly transplanted to Buffalo. Welcome!

It's been a couple years since I've visited Chautauqua, so I can't offer any advice on lunch or canoe rentals. However, my boss docks his boat there and knows the area like the back of his hand, so I'll ask him (tomorrow) for suggestions.

I will tell you that the area is absolutely beautiful, and that the Chautauqua Institute is the ultimate reason to visit!

Enjoy your day - I know you will!

If you're a fan of the arts, the Institute is a must. Last summer, admission tickets were $25, I think. That usually includes whatever concert is at the ampitheatre that night. Sundays, though, admission is free. BuffaloGirl can correct me if I'm wrong here.

OK, my boss gave two restaurant recommendations:

- The Italian Fisherman (Bemus Point)
- The Casino (Bemus Point)e

Both are lakefront with outdoor patios. The casino is a beer and wings type place and the Fisherman is a full scale restaurant and a bit more upscale.

He didn't know of any particular kayak or canoe rental places, although he sees people all the time cruising around the lake in them. There is a marina....called the Chautauqua Marina...that rents out motor boats, pontoon boats, etc. Perhaps they have kayaks and canoes as well. They're located on route 394 outside of Mayville.

Hope this helps. Have fun!

Thanks for the recommendations! Yes, I moved back to Buffalo last year after living in the DC area for 6 years. Even though I grew up here, I have done very few day trips around the surrounding area. I'm finally getting out to explore.
