Chatham, Mass - info please
 

I will be staying in Chatham 8/7 - 8/14. I have never been to Cape Cod and would appreciate any info about Chatham - ie things to do, beaches, restaurants etc. Any info would be greatly appreciated. <BR> <BR>Thanks - Marie

<BR>You'll have a great time on Cape Cod. Chatham is beautiful with greatrestaurants but don't just limit yourself to that town. Nauset Beach in Orleans is real nice and the beaches in Welfleet are spectacular. Try lunch at the Beachcomer Restaurant (Wellfleet) - there's a beach right there below huge sand dunes. Have fun!!

Chatham is a great little town on The Cape. The Main Street area is so cute, lots of shops and restuarants. Really good food at The Impudent Oyster. Also stop into The chatham Squire. you can't mis these places. Check out the Lihthouse, Chatham Bars Inn, and Fish Pier. Chamber of Commerce office right on Main Street - they have all sorts of info. Have a great trip.

Dinner at Wequassett Inn is great! The town is adorable, but you'll want to venture out over 7 days. Take in Coast Guard Beach in Eastham, and dinner at Chillingsworth in Brewster. Lots of antiquing along Rt. 6A.

Hi- you will love Chatham and there are so many things to do. As all of the above posters said downtown has great shops and places to eat. On Friday nights they have a concert on the bandstand in the center of town- next to the Wayside Inn- go earlier in the day and set up your chairs and blanket- noone will bother your stuff and then return an hour or so before concert hour and enjoy! The Chatham A's Cape Cod League baseball games are also great fun- alot of the major league players spent summers on the Cape in this league. Explore Harwichport and have breakfast at Bonatt's on Rt 28 in the downtown area- you will love it and it is sort of hidden - they don't advertise but it is so popular! ALso, Brewster is beautiful- we had a lovely dinner at the Brewster Fish House- very nice but small so go early. The seal cruises to Monommy Island in Chatham are also very nice. Drive to Chatham Lighthouse at sunset- pretty view. Go to Chatham Bars Inn for lunch or breakfast- lovely and great view. Call CHamber of Commerce and ask them to send you info ahead of time- 508-945-5199. The week you are there the Monomoy Theatre on Main Street is presenting "All My Sons" and "The Foreigner". You could also take the Freedom Ferry from Harwichport and go to Nantucket for the day. it is approx. $45 per person and takes 1 1/2 hours- you do need reservations ahead of time 508-432-8999. Coastguard Beach in Eastham was just named the best beach in America in last week's Wall Street Journal. Go early, though, the parking is limited and the beach closes as soon as the lot is full (usually by 9:30 or 10 am).

I also forgot to mention provincetown, which is about 25 minutes north of Chatham. P-Town is a lively artists community and has a pretty large gay population. Also, there is good shopping, a maritime/pilgrim museum, and an active theatre community. IMHO, no trip to the cape is complete without a visit to P-town.

Marie, <BR> <BR>Cape Cod has a very nice bike trial that is over 25 miles long. You can rent bikes in Brewster on route 6A and ride the trail to Coast Guard beach in Eastham. Most of it is on a bike trail without cars. A wonderful way to spend the day -

all the above are great recommendations. One more idea - a whale watch out of P-town is an unforgettable experience. The tip of the cape is one of the best whale watching areas in the world.Just make your reservations a day or so in advance!

Chatham is so wonderful! Hardings or Ridgevale beach are both lovely, but don't offer day parking... you can get a pass at the beach shack for the time you're there... go to the beaches early! <BR>If you've got kids, try to get to Paradice (frozen ice treats... rather like gourmet snow cones) up near the landing field. Definitely venture from Chatham, there is so much to see and do! <BR>Trees Place in Orleans is an outstanding art gallery... also, do the tour to see the seals...the National Sea Shore is worth the trip, it is absoulutely stunning! Have a GREAT TIME!
