Charlottesville suggestions

Can anyone suggest a place to stay for one night in the Charlottesville area. It is myself, husband and two daughters, 20 and 22. I would like something more exciting than a Hampton Inn but don't really like B & B's. How about one of the wineries? Any help would be great.

How about the Boars Head Inn, established in the 1700's and is absolutely goregous. A little expensive but certainly more exciting than the Hampton. Eat as the Bristro 1834.
There is Keswick Hall at Monticello. Used to be owned by late Laura Ashely's husband (British designer from the 1970's floral print fame). The rooms are pure luxury.
Charlottesville is a great town and don't leave the area without visiting the University that Thomas Jefferson designed or his wonderful home on the hill. Worth the time and the ride up the mountian on the bus. Michie Tavern is a fun stop. There is a winery trail you can follow depending on which direction you are traveling. Jefferson Vineyards and Klug Estate wineries are nearby as is First Colony. You would love all of these. Enjoy your trip.

YOu didn't say when you are going so this might be too late. The only winery in the general area that I know has accommodations has a B&B which you don't like.

With daughters in their 20s it might pay to stay at the Omni which is located on the downtown mall so they could go on their own without having to drive anywhere. YOu have access to all the shops and restaurants by foot.

I'm planning a trip to Charlottesville next summer and just found this thread - good info!

If you have not been to Charlottesville or Monticello before, make sure you get to Monticello, it is very famous, it is on the nickel. Plus, it is a great piece of architecture. It will only take an hour or two. It is really the main site to see at Charlottesville.

Not sure what your definition of a B&B is, but several years ago we stayed at Clifton and absolutely loved it. It's got a main house (orignally owned by Thomas Jefferson's SIL) with several outbuildings. So maybe that would be OK? Excellent breakfasts. We're anxious to return.

I second the Boar's Head Inn. It also has a wonderful restaurant.
