Charlotte to Raleigh

My husband and I are thinking of spending a few days traveling from Charlotte tio Raleigh. Was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on places to stop, things to do along the way.

It's a 2.5 hour drive. Several days?

I would head towards Asheville and the mountains of western NC or up to the Boone/ Blowing Rock/ Banner Elk area of the NC mountains.

I can't think of anything significant to do for several days along the 2.5 hour drive between the two cities you list.

It's a bit more than 2.5 but...... You could go to Winston Salem and visit Old Salem. And you could go to Seagrove and tour the wonderful potteries (60+!!!) of that area for a day. Both of these are about equidistant to Raleigh from Charlotte. I don't know if it is worth stopping and getting a motel enroute. You could do day trips from either Raleigh or Charlotte.
There are wineries off of I40 and route 52 in the Winston Salem vicinity. And you could stop in Lexington for its iconic barbecue.
Another interesting town is Hillsbourough for poking around its historic district. And of course Chapel Hill.

I do like driving around the countryside, visiting the Seagrove potteries.

You may want to eat at Crook's Corner -

for their famous shrimp & grits (or other)

I'd still head to the mountains though. The Downtown Abbey exhibit will be at the Biltmore through early April -

I don't disagree about the idea of Asheville either. I just answered the question and there is plenty to do for a couple of days.

On the way to Asheville you could have the best BBQ at Bridges' BBQ in Shelby. Near Rutherfordton visit the Equestrian Center and then poke around the cute dowtown of Rutherfordton or Tryon. Then on To Asheville and the mountains.

The Equestrian center is quite an amazing endeavor
