Charlotte NC Hotels
 

I will be attending an event at Ovens Auditorium in Charlotte. Can someone tell me what hotels are in that part of town? Also, are there restaurants and shopping near Ovens, or should I plan to stay in another part of town? Thanks!!!

I think you will want to stay and shop elsewhere. That is now on the expressway and it is pretty isolated. I'd suggest the SouthPark area if you'd like to shop while you are here. Might try Priceline for that area.

Uptown would only be about 3-5 minutes to Ovens via 7th St. or Independence Blvd. (depending on lights) The Southpark area, while fine for shopping, has serious ingress/egress problems. You'd be looking more like 20-30 minutes from there. I prefer the Uptown area although there is limited shopping. But from Uptown you could easily access East Blvd. & Southend. Southpark tends to be a little 'stuffy' as well.

Stuffy? Well, upscale maybe. And more than I can handle in a day! But you cannot deny the shopping and dining opportunities. Laurie may need to say what shopping SHE wants.
Twenty minutes, with parking right outside the hotel in the parking lot instead of in a deck as many downtown hotels are.

If you are looking for nightlife, stay at a hotel downtown (or uptown). Whatever your term is for Center City depends on how long you have been here. There are more hotels and restaurants in uptown to choose from, and it's a straight shot to Ovens Auditorium.

I don't think it is quite stuffy either. I love the South Park area (The Park Hotel is my favorite) although I've gotten the Doubletree off priceline for $45.

Funny story, two different times I was staying on the club floor at the Park Hotel I've run into Jimmy Buffett in the elevator.

The Park has changed hands and names--I think it is the Marriott now.
No doubt--downtown has many many nice restaurants. But no shopping.
