Charleston, WV-What to see there

I am taking a 2 1/2 - 3 week road trip this summer with my 18 DD. We are traveling from NC . First stop she wants to go is Charleston WV. We are seeing the Beckley Coal mine and the Craik-Patten House. Is there any thing else to see in the area? We are both really into history.

Thanks

Melissa

I believe I'd just keep on going. Where are you going after that.

Where in NC are you coming from. Charleston is about 4 hours from Charlotte, parkersburg another 2 at most. I77 is a beautiful interstate, but not much going on. WVA is abeautiful state for scenery.
The Blenko glass factory is somewhere along that line.

There are a couple things to see in Charleston, including:

--state capitol.
--Governor's mansion.
--West Virginia State History Museum.
--Clay Center for the Arts and Sciences (this is a small art and science museum complex).

Not sure if any of this is worth going out of one's way to see, but that's what's there.

You could continue on to Huntingon ad Pilgram Glass then follow the river to Parkersburg. Will add time of course.

Your daughter might like to stop at Tamarack in Beckley. Crafts from all over WV. Great collection of regional music and books. Good cafe. We overnighted in Beckley and went to the "Hatfields and McCoys" outdoor presentation nearby. Worth a trip.
