Charleston Vacation from May 10 through 13
Hi,
Which of these inns would you recommend? Maison Dupre Barksdale House Inn Victorian Rutledge B and B Phoebe Pember House My boyfriend and I will be traveling to Charleston and would like to stay downtown for no more than $160 per night. We are interested in staying in a bed and breakfast or inn. We will be in Charleston from May 10 through May 13. Also, are there any places that you would recommend to stop off for the night between Durham, NC and Charleston, SC? Thanks! |
I'm not familiar with any of those particular hotels but I can recommend The Andrew Pinckney Inn. It is one of the best deals in Charleston.
Also, the Indigo Inn or The Vendue Inn are excellent choices. Plus, The Vendue Inn has such a cool rooftop bar. |
RainLaurel, I topped GoT's very excellent trip report on Charleston. It is a great resource for planning. I would not stop between Durham and Charleston (other than for necessities) it is only about 3.5 or 4 hours drive time. Enjoy Charleston. I am headed there next week, a favorite city!

Thanks for your help. We are going to stay at King George IV Inn. I will definitely look at your report to get advice on restaurants and activities to do while in Charleston. King George IV Inn was what we could afford since it is only around $160.00 per night. Hopefully, it will be nice!

RainLaurel2, have you read the reviews for King George IV on tripadvisor.com? I think you'll be very pleased with the place. We walked past it, peered into the garden, and considered staying there once. Be sure to eat at Magnolia's, and to see Magnolia Plantation ... :)

We have stayed at the King George and found it to be a good mid-price option. It is in an area of town that has many good restaurants as well, and it has parking which can be a problem with other places. Breakfasts are continental-plus which is a step up from most B&Bs in Charleston. It's not as fancy as some but also not as pretentious.
We enjoyed eating at the Hominy Grill and Fish, both in the neighborhood. |
Consider yourself fortunate to have found an affordable accommodation in Charleston that weekend. We are also staying at George IV, but don't come in until Sunday evening. When I made those reservations nearly a month ago, I asked the staff to notify me if something opened up on F/Sat night.... so apparently it did and you got the room instead. LOL, I'll look for you at breakfast on Monday morning. Don't know what's going on in that city besides college graduations that weekend, but accommodations are tight!

We are only staying in Charleston for May 10th and 11th since we could not find a room for the 12th that was in our price range. I'm trying to find a Bed and Breakfast for the night of the 12th outside of Charleston on the way back to Durham. Any suggestions? I guess that the hotels are booked since it is graduation weekend and Mother's Day.
