Charleston to Virginia or DC help with itinerary
 

We will be in Charleston. I'm planning on leaving in the a.m. and going up to DC or Virginia. My friend would like to see civil war battle field or maybe even just do Williamsburg.

We only will have 2 and half days.

Where would you go and what would you do?

I love Williamsburg. I also love DC though.

Or do we try to do another area of VA?

Does that 2 1/2 days include travel time or is that touring time? If it's includes travel time, you're really only looking at 2 days of touring. I've made the CHS to DC drive too many times to count and it is anywhere from an 8 - 9 hour drive depending on traffic.

I love DC and lived there for 5 years and didn't see 1/4 of the sites so 2 days is pretty ambitious. If you only have 2 days, my vote would be for Williamsburg. It would give you time to enjoy the sites and not be as rushed as you would be in DC.

Well, on the way up we are going to stop at Shirley to tour. It is such an amazing plantation I think he would like that.

After that we have two days.

Williamsburg is probably the best bet!

The Pottery, which is a large shopping area full of warehouses of everything you can imagine, is just on the other side of Williamsburg. A stop there plus Williamsburg would be a fun trip! Jamestown and Monticello could be added also if time permits. A trip to DC would be too difficult in the time you have available.

You may as well include Yorktown while in that area.
On the way to D.C. there is the Wilderness Battlefield just west of Fredericksburg on route 3.
