Charleston to St. Augustine - what else in between?

We're planning a week-long trip for April, planning to fly into either Charleston or Jacksonville, with tentative destinations of Charleston, Savannah, Jacksonville and St. Augustine.

What other areas in the vicinity would you recommend visiting?

We'll be getting a rental car and I wonder if there's a big difference in cost picking it up at one end and returning it at the other, rather than driving back to our starting point to return the car and fly home?

Thanks.

You might enjoy a stop in Beaufort, SC. It is a lovely little town.

Cumberland Island is one of the few undeveloped yet accessible barrier islands. You can take a day trip to it via ferry. http://www.cviog.uga.edu/Projects/ga...d/contents.htm

The Georgia coast, especially Jekyll Island and St Simons Island are very nice to visit.

Ditto Jekyll Island. Stop and take a tour of some of the millionaires' mansions built when it was a winter haven for the likes of Vanderbilts, Goodyears, etc. Shop in some of the cute stores in the Historic District. Take a walk along the long beach. Eat lunch or dinner in one of the local restaurants. Have fun!

Ditto Beaufort, S.C. and the lovely Georgia Isles. And don't miss Savannah.
