Charleston to Raleigh -- where to stop?

We might have a night somewhere between Charleston SC and Raleigh NC this June for a one night stop? Never been to the Carolinas and was wondering if there is a good location approximately 1/2 way between. We will be flying out the next day from Raleigh.

Something touristy, with two teens, that would fill the bill for an evening and the next morning? Also where would be a good location to stay. We do have lots of Marriott points that can be used if there is a good choice through them.

How early is your flight the next day. Wilmington is about 2 hours from Raleigh and is an interesting historic town. You could drive up Route 17 from Charleston and hit a lot of interesting places--Georgetown, Pawley's Island both have historic districts dating to Revolutionary times.
I would assume there is a Marriott in Wilmington.

Touristy, teen-friendly, with a Marriott, in June?

Logic screams out Myrtle Beach: we have a new Marriott at Grande Dunes (oceanfront). However, if you are flying out of Raleigh the next day, you've got about a 3.5 to 4 hour drive to get to the airport from MB.

There's really not much as to travel destinations between Charleston and Raleigh. The only other suggestion I can offer is to get a little further north of MB, and stay in Wilmington, NC. That would cut perhaps an hour off of your drive to Raleigh.

Wilmington has a nice little riverfront, with shops and restaurants. My wife & I like to go there from MB occasionally, but we're way beyond our teen years, so I'm not sure it's what you're looking for.

If you can make the 4 hour drive the next day work, stay in MB for the night. Check out Broadway at the Beach, lots there for teens to do, or just hit the beach.

Actually staying at Marriott Grande Dunes in Myrtle Beach before heading to Charleston and then the return home in Raleigh for three nights during this trip. But the idea of Wilmington is interesting. I will see if that works with our schedule.

It is about 4 hours, nothing between Raleigh and Charleston, bite the bullet and just do the drive, straight shot (almost) down I-95, both Wilmington and Myrtle Beach are kinda out of the way MB moreso.

Nothing between Charleston and Raleigh? What about South of the Border? You have hurt Pedro's feelings.

But will Pedro take the Mariott points?

Stop by South of the Border, gawk at all the tacky tourist stuff, and then leave.

If you feel the need to spend the night somewhere, I guess somewhere between Fayetteville, NC and Florence, SC would fit the bill. But it's not that far so, like others, I'd bite the bullet and drive the whole way.

Stay the night in Raleigh or out by RDU. I think the NC Museum of Art is open late on Friday (or maybe that's for special exhibits), and depending you could see a Carolina Hurricanes (playoffs -- hard to get tickets) or a Durham Bulls baseball game. Will you be in the area on a Saturday morning: Super Flea at the fairgrounds (just down the road from the NC Museum of Art).

Forgot to say, "You never SAUSAGE a place! You're aways a WEINER at Pedro's!" ;;)

Nah, ncgrrl, they need to STAY at the motel at "South of The Border." :p (I've always wanted to hear a *trip report* from there!)
