Charleston Tea Plantation

Read about this in my local newspaper. The only tea plantation in the US is now open for tours. I've not been (yet), but thought those planning a trip to Charleston area might be interested.

Haven't been to Charleston recently. Went to Beaufort last week. Thanks for reminding me - I'll check out the tea plantation.

I got caught in a torrential downpour at the City Marina in downtown Charleston with one of the two guys that used to own the Charleston Tea Plantation.

Not sure if they sold it or it went out of business but I know they used to throw concerts on the grounds of the tea plantation and let attendees camp there all weekend.

That is how he ended up with his dog.

He had a big 60 foot Hatteras or Bertram. Can't remember his name, the dog's, or the boat's name.

Definitely a hippy.

We tried to visit the tea plantation.....it was listed in our guidebook but none of the locals knew much about it...decided to try since it is supposedly the only tea grown in the U.S. We drove in and around and realized it was not open to the public...came to a latched gate....ended up feeling like we were trespassing....it was kind of a hysterical high drama in the end. We bought Charleston tea at some souvenir shops in town and we could technically say we had been there!! I would be interested to hear how it compares now!!
