Charleston - Sweetgrass info

We are planning to come to Charleston SC the last week of February. Does anybody have any thoughts on what staying at Sweetgrass would be like. Thanks from Kansas

What is staying at sweetgrass?

aileen679 Dec 15th, 2005 11:29 AM

Do you mean the Best Western Sweetgrass Inn?

ronsus Dec 15th, 2005 01:48 PM

Sorry yes Best Western Sweetgrass.

If you're looking to be in the historic area, this hotel is probably a good 15-20 minute drive depending on traffic on Savannah Hwy (which can be challenging depending the time of day). If you're looking to stay with a BW, I'd suggest the BW King Charles Inn on Meeting St (right in the heart of the action in the historic district). Enjoy your visit!

From your title, I thought that you were going to inquire about purchasing sweetgrass baskets.... oh well, get back to me if you'd like some advise on that subject.

I wasn't really focusing on a BW just a nice place to stay not to far from things to do. We have never been to Charleston before and it looked like a neat town.

Hello ronsus, if you go onto the search box here and type in GoTravel I think you will find her trip report which is fabulous. She lives close to Charleston NC and took the time to play "tourist" in Charleston. She consquently wrote a very informative trip report. My friend and I certainly enjoyed our trip to Charleston thanks to all her information.

You will enjoy your time in Charleston if you stay in the historic district of Charleston rather than on the outskirts. Have a wonderful trip.

I don't suggest staying outside Charleston if you are planning on sightseeing downtown.

Try The Andrew Pinckney Inn, Best Western King Charles Inn, and the Days Inn downtown.

The King Charles Inn is much nicer than your average Best Western.

You would be better off to stay in Mount Pleasant 's Holiday Inn. You can see the new bridge from there and to drive to Charleston and visit the other amenities is better. Make sure you find a parking garage, like on Cumberland street. Parking can be a pain. Visit http://www.CityofCharleston.info for more on historic charleston sites. There are wonderful links there.

I would stay away from the Days Inn downtown, I've read some bad reviews about it lately. Holiday Inn Historic District would be another choice to consider. End of February shouldn't be much of a problem for parking.
