My wife and I are considering a mid-October driving trip from Chicago to Charleston and Savannah - plan on spending about a week. Any thoughts/comments/suggestions on things that we might be interested in seeing/doing? ALL replies would be greatly appreciated.

A week is a good amount of time to explore this area, and October strikes me as a good time of year to go.

A very good way to answer the very general question you asked is to do a board search. These two cities are very well covered on this forum.

RIght. It is a beautiful time of year to visit. It would help to know your interests. I like to recommend a carriage rid here in Charleston first thing. It helps you get your bearings and make choices about what to do next. Do you want to stay at the beach or in town?

Asheville, NC, would be a good place to stop on your way there or back, and Beaufort is a delightful little town to check out on your way from Charleston to Savannah.

I love Beaufort. Hunting Island is my favorite beach ever.
