Charleston, SC or Richmond, VA

Which of these two cities is more worth visiting. Have never been to either one so any input would be appreciated.

Have been to both this very year, so I feel I can make a fair comparision.

Unless you are a US Civil War buff, Charleston has Richmond beat fairly handily in just about every category. More charm, more history, better food.

I loved my four days in Richmond and will definitely return. But I *REALLY* loved my days in Charleston and already consider it one of my favorite US cities.

NO contest--Charleston.

As much as I really like Richmond, it doesn't even come close to the beauty of Charleston.

I have been to Richmond several times and Charleston twice. Easily Charleston (for food, beauty, recreation, etc.), unless as Paul said, you are very into the Civil War. Even then, Charleston has Ft. Sumter, Ft. Moultrie, the Charleston Museum, Civil War tours, and the Hunley submarine.
