Charleston Restaurants for oysters

What is A.W. Shucks's reputation for oysters? Another oyster bar better? Thanks!

I've been to AW Shucks, and it was just OK. GoTravel could probably help you out, but she's out of town for the holidays. Pearlz Oyster Bar looks good, although I've not been there. ((b))

We just had She-Crab Soup and Seafood Chowder at A. W. Shucks, and I would never eat ANYTHING there again. The She-Crab Soup was yukky-awful, service slow, no atmosphere! I stopped there as my feet were hurting, I only wanted soup, and very few restaurants open on Christmas Eve afternoon. NEVER AGAIN!

Thank you BM and Elsie, guess we will skip AW Shucks. We will be leaving for the area tomorrow.

My husband loves oysters and when we were in Charleston he had great
oysters at Hanks. You can try several differant kinds.

Agree with the suggestions for Hank's--we found the food excellent and the service great.

We have just returned and I wanted to say we were disappointd that Hanks is not open for lunch. We were not going to be in Charleston for the evening so settled for lunch at S.N.O.B. :-) It was good but I would have much perfered oysters at Hanks.

It really depends on where the oyster are from and the time of year. Oyster season is from about November through April.

Personally, I like local oysters because they are salty. I do not care for Gulf Oysters.
