Charleston - Renaissance Charleston or Harbour View Inn?

I realize location is everything with the Harbour View, but many of the reviews I’ve read say they rooms aren’t all that great for the price. I made my reservation for their “suite” which includes two balconies and a Jacuzzi tub. I’ve come to find the balconies are like two feet big and the Jacuzzi tub is just a bathtub with whirlpool jets. So I’m wondering if for $1,009 for three nights this hotel is really worth it. The Renaissance will run around $800 for three nights on their Charleston Floor. I stayed at the Renaissance Arts Hotel in New Orleans last year and loved it, so I’m thinking this might be the better choice. Is the Renaissance in a bad location? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

If the room at the Harborview has a habor view, I would stay there.

The Renaissance is actually a better location.

Call the Harborview and discuss your concerns with them.

The Renaissance is beautiful!! Gorgeous rooms and great location to walk to everything. I stayed there and loved it so Pink. I don't believe anything is right on the Harbor all across the street w/ some views. There are beautiful inns on the Harbor but a for a hotel that is classy upscale beautiful and great location the Renaissance.

I know 4 people who have stayed at the Renaissance and they all loved it. I used to take dates to the piano bar when I was in school.

There are two very nice restaraunt right across the street, and the area is safe to walk at night.

Hi,
We stayed at the Renaissance last June and it was fine. Request a larger room, (I think the corner rooms are bigger) as the rooms are not that big in general. If you want to be within a short walk of the market area, its a good place to stay.
The Planters Inn and French Quarter Inn are also very nice if you want to be in the middle of all the excitement.
(Not sure if they have pools though)
Good Luck...I'm sure you'll have a blast!

We stayed a the Renaissance this fall. I loved it, husband was on business on my own a lot and very safe, walking area, excellent breakfast (lemon souffle pancakes w/ fruit.....mmmm), staff most accomodating, see if you can get a room with a view of the Cooper Bridge - room wasn't large or luxurious, but so much to see I only slept there!
I easily walked everywhere from there. I walked to waterfront, lovely park, big bench swings, and enjoyed the views that way- otherwise too busy trying to see everything else.

Go Travel did a great Charleston report where she checked out many hotels, the link might have something on it for you in making your choice:
