Charleston Questions

We have been invited to attend the Hibernian Ball in a few weeks.:):) I would love to have some of the "specialists" from Charleston give some ideas for fun bars and restaurants for us to try. I have read through the threads and written down some recommendations. A friend was the architect for the Ordinary Oyster Bar and I have not heard anything or read anything about this restaurant. We are returning to Charleston for a week in April and I will use the information for that trip as well. We have been to Charleston only one time before and we ate at Magnolia's and the Fat Hen and Wild Olive out near Isle of Palms. The Wild Olive was one of the best meals we have had in a long time. We are not "young" and are not partying types, but we do love a nice glass of wine and a cocktail with some "tapas" or similar and then on to a nice dinner. We don't mind to dress up, but we don't mind to dress down either for good food. We find that it is often the hole in the wall kind of places that really have the best food. Thanks in advance.

I'll let the Charleston experts answer your specifics, but congrats on the invite to the Ball :-)

FIG would be at the top of my list, based on recent reviews from folks who loved it.

Starrs, I am way out of my league!hahahaha
I think the guys who own Fig also own the new Oyster Bar. I have heard that Fig is good - thanks!

Sorry-I've been way out of the loop.

I just got back from Charleston and highly recommend you go to the Ordinary. It's in the old Bank of America building on upper King. Mike Lata of FIG fame is the chef. It's wonderful.

There are lots of neat bars on Upper King. We went to Stars (starrs! They named it after you) Saturday night-excellent rooftop bar and neat cocktails.

Also look at the bars at Cypress, Market Pavilion and Charleston Place.

If you don't want fancy and can get out of town, go to Mustard Seed or Long Point Grill in Mt Pleasant.

Glad you are back, suewoo! And dang, I HAVE to schedule a trip now... just to check out "my" place. :-)

Yes! You have to! It's called Stars Grill Room. All the waiters wear white jackets, and black ties. It's so retro. And there's a view of the bridge from the roof.
