Charleston Place or Elliott House?
 

Which hotel in Charleston? Charleston Place is $199 with free carriage ride, free food for child, pool. Elliott is $145 w/free breakfast, outdoor hot tub, free bikes, wine/cheese.

Have you stayed at Elliott? Just wondering why you like Charleston Place better? Other option is 1 nt at Elliott & 1 nt at Charleston...

I stayed at Charleston Place back when it was still an OMNI and it was great.
I toured the Elliott House the last time I was in Charleston and really liked it. I prefer historic so I probably would take the Elliott House over Charleston Place. I wouldnt opt for 1 night in each b/c it just seems like a hassle for two nights in hotels that are not even a mile apart. Actualy 145.00 seems a little high for the Elliott House, is it Spoleto? Charleston Place is beautiful, but again I usually go for the historic, which Charleston has no short supply of :)

Elliott's charges $20 for child and extra for King bed. Both places charge $12 to park. This is a hard choice...both seem nice. I read the rooms are smaller at Elliott's, but they offer bikes and outdoor hot tub. Charleston Place has a pool and free food for kid.

I use to live in Charleston and now visit at least twice a year. While both options are fantastic and are great locations, my choice would be Charleston Place.

Is Charleston Place where you stay when you visit? Also, do you recommend Kiawah villa for 2 nts?

laplaya, I have not stayed at the Elliott House by have stayed at Charleston Place. It is fabulous and consistently gets outstanding reviews.

My husband and I have stayed at the Elliot House. We liked it best of all the places we've stayed in. It is absolutely charming. We enjoyed taking the bikes out in the morning and riding around the city. You should be aware, though, that it's set up like a motel, not a hotel. Your door opens to the exterior courtyard--wonderfully landscaped with palm trees. There is no large central lobby. The ambiance is that of a historical inn, which it is. Charleston Place is a hotel, very polished and smooth.

Sorry for the late response, I have actually stayed at both places. Having said that, if this was my first time visiting, I would just choose Charleston Place because it is so famous and the location is fantastic. Again though, you will be very pleased with either of them.

To dln: Did you also stay at Charleston Place? If so, how was the pool?

Laplaya, We haven't actually stayed at Charleston Place but we're familiar with it. It is beautiful, but doesn't have that authentic historic feel of the Elliott House. However, I completely forgot about a pool! I assume you're going in the summer or you wouldn't be mentioning the pool.

This is what I would do: if indeed you are going when the heat of Charleston is strong, go with the pool. It is hotter and more humid than is bearable, and the only way to deal with it is to get a jump start on your sightseeing as early as possible. Then take a break for lunch, squeeze in a visit or two afterwards to something air-conditioned, whether it be a shop or a museum, and head back to your hotel. Go for a swim, relax for a while, and return for round two of sightseeing, capping it off with a dinner in any of Charleston's great restaurants.

Of course, if this trip is planned for the fall, stay at the Elliot House for its historic ambiance, and enjoy the great hot tub (it really looks like a Roman spa--very elegant).
