Charleston Nightlife

My husband and I will be visiting downtown Charleston, SC this weekend. We are in our late twenties and enjoy dancing - top 40, pop music. Where is the best/safest/most hip place to go out in Charleston these days? In my searches, I keep coming across the Indigo Charleston? Does anyone know anything about this place?

I apologize for not knowing anything about the Charleston nightlife. I am citing a thread on Charleston which will prove very helpful in planning your visit.

I'll be sure to check out that thread - thanks! Does anyone have any information on nightlife?

When my wife and I visit, we usually start w/ drinks at Southend Brewery or Tommy Condons and then just walk down E. Bay to find a club. Most have their doors open so you can hear the music they're playing and see the crowd inside.

Here's a few places you may want to check out:

Club Trio on Calhoun St (live bands)
213 on East Bay St (DJ)
Cumberland's on King St (live bands)
Music Farm on Ann St (live bands)
Wet Willies on East Bay (DJ) - small dance floor but usually a pretty fun crowd

The following are great places to hang out but generally don't have bands or dancing:

Tristan's on Church St - great martinis
Club Habana on Meeting St - martinis and cigar bar
Blind Tiger on Broad St - cafe that sometimes has live bands
Charlie's Little Bar on East Bay (closer to Broad St) is a hip joint
Pavillion Bar - rooftop bar of the Market Pavillion Hotel at 225 East Bay St - great views

I'd personally stay away from City Bar on Faber St...it can be pretty iffy safety wise and tends to be loaded with obnixious college kids.

Enjoy your visit!!
