Charleston in October
 

Hello-

Thinking of going to Charleston in October. Is this the "off season"? Is there such a thing in Charleston? We don't want to go when its extremely hot. Thinking October would be cooler. I'm reading horrible reviews on the hotel we stayed in 5 years ago - Andrew Pinckney. Any suggestions? Doesn't have to be spectacular - looking for an inexpensive get away.

Don't know about hotels (we stay with family), but we went to Charleston in early October some years ago and it was HOT. Well over 80 every day, and the mercury hit 100 the day we toured downtown Charleston. Was told by my husband's relatives, that while the 100 was higher than normal, it wasn't crazy for that time of year. I have no idea if they were actually correct, but the Weather Channel would give you some sense of averages.

I truly believe that Oct. is probably the best time (weather-wise) to visit the Carolinas Coast (assuming no hurricanes are about). I would guess the temps being mentioned by persi are an anomaly at best + the humidity will/should be much less. May and October are the best weather months in the Lowcountry.

I LOVE Charleston in October! Well, truth be known, I love Charleston any time of year, but October is especially nice. I've been twice in October, for a week each time. The first time, a cool front had moved through and it was on the chilly side for part of the week, but I just spent a week on Isle of Palms in October 2008 and the weather was fabulous. I wore shorts during the day, spent late morning/early afternoon hours on the beach, threw on a long sleeved tshirt for evenings on the deck (after sunset). I

As far as hotel, I don't know that October is considered "off-season", because of the Fall Home and Garden Tours. However, you can find some real deals, if you are interested in renting a home or condo on Sullivan's Island or Isle of Palms. Many of the rentals drop to their winter rate around Columbus Day.

If what I've read is correct, it looks like "off season" in Charleston is limited to December through February.

I stayed at the King George B&B. It's located near the college; quiet at night; breakfast included; parking (not sure if there is a charge); clean; beautiful/antiques; and I was able to walk to all the sites (other than plantation tours). I would definitely stay there again. You might want to search tripadvisor.com.
