Charleston in August

Is it crazy hot this time of year?

GoTravel May 23rd, 2006 01:36 PM

Yes.

South Carolina June through September is very hot, very humid, and very sticky with a chance of afternoon thunderstorms every day.

starrsville May 23rd, 2006 01:41 PM

Crazy hot indeed.

starrsville May 23rd, 2006 02:08 PM

Or, as hot as a cat on a hot tin roof!

rb_travelerxATyahoo May 23rd, 2006 02:32 PM

Went camping near Anderson late August a few years ago, and thought it less hot & humid than in Tidewater VA area, but SC is a decent sized state, so I suppose it depends on where in the state you're referring to, O.P.

"..Tin Roof", the story of a neurotic, dysfunctional Southern family with its rivalries, tensions, and avarice takes place in Mississippi, "Starrsville", not S.C.

That was an oblique reference that I thought GoTravel would pick up. I am fully aware that the fictional Maggie did not live in SC.

starrsville May 23rd, 2006 02:49 PM

But, I'll be glad to tell you how hot it is in Charleston tomorrow.

cmcfong May 23rd, 2006 04:58 PM

That's why God invented airconditioning....I am going in August.
Have a safe trip, Starrsville!

starrsville May 23rd, 2006 05:05 PM

Thanks!

Thank God for air conditioning. Does anyone else remember family trips in station wagons during the summer in a car filled with grouchy siblings?

Talk about crazy hot!

cmcfong May 23rd, 2006 05:17 PM

Yes. Dad returning from a year in Korea. Mom in unairconditioned 1952 Buick, two beastly children, one wire haired fox terrier with an attitude, two parakeets and two miserable teachers who thought they were saving money by riding across country with the Joads....

starrsville May 23rd, 2006 05:22 PM

THAT is terrible. You could win an award on this site for "worst trip" I'm sure! :-)

GoTravel May 24th, 2006 05:19 AM

YES!! and rolling all the windows down in the car!

Cat on a hot tin roof indeed!

rb, hot is hot is hot in the south in August. There really aren't degrees of hot.

SAnParis May 24th, 2006 05:40 AM

It's not the heat, it's the humidity...

rb_travelerxATyahoo May 24th, 2006 07:54 AM

My mistake-- I read "SC" in GoTravel's post which wiped the "Charleston" of the title from my brain cells. My brain is full; I must forget something in order to learn anything new!

I spent some time the same year in Summerville (close to Charlestown) and GoTravel's description is perfect.

90 degrees and pretty nice. August will be very hot and humid - but Charleston is worth it.
