Charleston - Ideal Time to Visit
I'm getting down to the nitty gritty of planning a trip to Charleston & Savannah.
My dates are flexible and there isn't a specific sight with specific dates that I don't want to miss. So, I'm trying to find the time with the best combination of: Warm days but not unbearably hot and humid. Nice evenings for walking but not cold. The least chance of rain. Don't we all wish for the above? But my dates are flexible so why not try? Originally I was looking at mid-April (just befor Easter). After checking weather.com I'm wondering if that time is somewhat cool. Especially the evenings. How about early May? |
May is better than April. May is better than June unless you are a Southerner and can take it. If you are interested in flowers and gardens, you could Google to see when they are most in bloom then IMMEDIATELY book your room while they are still available. If you are not interested in gardens and flowers, you have more flexibility.

Ha ha - we were there is JULY -- could barely "take it" :-) |
It depends of if you plan to swim in the ocean. My two favorite months here are April and October. The oppressive heat doesn't really kick in until July. But the ocean is a little chilly (to me) for swimming in April. Rain is anybody's guess.

May if just visiting the cities, October if you plan to include the Beach.

I would go two weeks before school is out in mid May. If not then go in October. Spring is when everything is blooming and very pretty.
