Charleston historic district hotel?
We will be staying in Hilton Head Sept. 22-29 and want to add a few nights in Charleston (Sept. 29-Oct.3). I have been scouring the internet for hotels and reading everything I can find. Am currently considering Best Western King Charles, Andrew Pinckney Inn, also Lodge Alley. We will have a rental car so will need parking options also. Trying to keep rates under $200/night. This is our first trip to this area. Any opinions and recommendations are appreciated.

Do you want to stay right in the Historic District? We love the Courtyard by Marriott Downtown Riverview. It's not your typical Courtyard and if you reserve the Riverview rooms, you have a lovely view of the river and the marina.

bizzyb,
we just had a great inexpensive stay at The Anchorage Inn ($99 queen bed). It's a bed & breakfast style inn off of East Bay Street. The location is outstanding--next to the Vendue Inn (cool rooftop bar) and a lot of the great restaraunts in Charleston, just a few blocks south of the market. |
The Best Western has free parking and the other two do not.
I love both the BW King Charles Inn (it is so much nicer than a Best Western) and the Andrew Pinckney. Locations are within spitting distance of each other; both excellent. Don't stay outside the historic district if you can swing closer downtown. |
If I recall correctly, GoTravel and others who visited Charleston recommend Days Inn. There is a free parking and you would be right in the center of everything. So it looks as you have a few choices and there is no need to stay somewhere outside of Charleston and commute.

GoTravel's right about parking--it was $12 per day at the Anchorage Inn. But even adding that into the cost, and Anchorage Inn still seems like an unusual bargain for historic district of Charleston.

Thanks everyone for the information. I did some more internet research and decided to give Priceline a try. Got the Marriott Renaissance Charleston for $135/night. Cheaper than all the other hotels I was considering, I'm thrilled!
