Charleston, Hampton Inn or Embassy Suites?
 

We will be stopping in Charleston for 1 night and are trying to chose between the Hampton Inn Historic ($79) or the Embassy Suites Hisoric ($99). We are traveling with 2 children. Has anyone stayed at either of these properties? I read the Rants/Raves on this website and there was no info on HI but the one review on the Embassy Suites (which I was leaning towards), was awful! I'm just wondering whether that was an isolated incident. Thanks for your help!

If it's the Hampton Inn across the street from the Visitor's Center, we stayed there in May and were happy with it. $79 sounds like a great price. You do have to pay for parking. There's also a trolley stop by the visitor center.

Hey! If you can get into the Embassy Suites for $99 a night I would definately stay there. The rates are usually much higher than that. The hotel is pretty new to that property - but that actual site is full of history! Oh and I am from Charleston and that is where I would pick!

Thanks Elizabeth. I was leaning towards the E.S. By the way, since you live in Charleston, can you recommend a good restaurant that serves regional food, isn't too expensive and would be appropriate for children? Thank you.

It is called an Irish "pub" which tickled their imagination, but in reality is extremely mild and the food is good, the atmosphere is family oriented and the price is good. Cheri, <BR> <BR>Whether or not you stay at HI or ES (I would do ES), do make use of the Visitor's Center and the Trolley system. Read all of the recommendations on Fodor's - they're all quite reliable! Thanks for the replies everyone. I booked the ES and my boys are looking forward to staying in a former "fort". Has anyone heard of Alices or Hominy Grill? They are written up in Fodors as having good "low country" food. Thanks.

both of those restaurants are good. <BR>My personal favorite is Jestines's on Meeting St. Food like my S. C. grandmother always made. Crowded tables and often a wait but the best fried orka and cornbread in town.
