Charleston dining with "atmosphere"
Our family of 4 will be in Charleston this August. Daughters are 10yo and 19yo.
Looking for restaurant recommendations...want good food, not too expensive, great ambience and possibly music(dixie, jazz, etc.) All of us reaaly enjoy dining out and enjoy just about all cuisines! Any feedback is appreciated. |
Magnolia's.

I agree about Magnolias, esp for a special meal, but I would also have to say, it is just about impossible to find a local restaurant in Charleston that does _not_ have atmosphere.
|
SNOB might also be an option -
I like the atmostphere there, think a 10 and 19 yr old would enjoy - |
All the other ideas, along with many more will be good. But for local "flavor" and excellent seafood go across to Mt. Pleasant and eat at SeaWee on Route 17. And some of the places on Shem Creek in Mt. Pleasant are a lot of fun, on the water.

Hyman's seafood is just up Meeting Street from the city Market. Great seafood, reasonable prices, atmosphere and the list of celebrities that have eaten there is a mile long. You usually have to wait to get a table but it's worth it. Also a place called Poogan's Porch. It's a few blocks south from Hymans, on a side street off Meeting Street, across from the Mills Hotel. Really authentic low country cooking, reasonable prices. We didn't eat in that many different restaurants on our recent trip cause we kept going back to Hymans.

There's a brilliant Irish pub in North Charleston called Madra Rua. Excellent food, authentic atmosphere.
