Charleston Birthday Party-August 2006

Hello Charleston Experts,
My high school classmates and I will be celebrating our sixtieth birthdays next August in Charleston. Thanks to the information from Go Travel we booked at the Doubletree Suites and we got a great rate. It will be way too humid and hot for us geezers to be out strolling around much, but we do like to have a lunch party for the non golfers during our events. I had considered the rooftop of the Vendue had we had an earlier time, but given that it will be August, can anyone suggest a place with air conditioning, a great view, a reasonably broad menu, and a moderate price range ($15-20 lunch w/o drinks)? Thanks for any ideas. I will be in Charleston in October and will go check out the suggestions.

Have you checked to see whether or not the SC Aquarium or the Maratime Museum could accomodate you?

The Fleet Landing restaurant, on a pier downtown, would be perfect if you food was good.

We had appetizers there Saturday night and were not impressed however, if you do something simple, it may be good. The restaurant has perfect views of Charleston Harbor.

What about a lunch cruise?

How many in your party?

Also, contact the Harborview to see if they have a dining room.

Forgot to add, you'll love the Doubletree! Couldn't ask for a better location!

Thanks, GoTravel. I insisted we book at the Doubletree after reviewing your comments. Our group usually numbers about 100-150. We went to high school in Panama and folks come from around the world for these events.
When I am there in October I will check out our options at the Aquarium (what a great site that would be!) and the Maritime Museum. I will also run by Fleet Landing and Harbourview to see what our possibilities there are. The cruise suggestion is great, so we are looking into that for one evening during our stay.
I appreciate your help. Go luck with your marathon.

You can see the deal with Fleet Landing from their website. With a group of 100-150, that really opens up your options.

Many places will close for a private party to guarentee that number.

One caveat about the lunch cruise, seasickness. Charleston Harbor is part of the ocean! LOL!

You'll enjoy the Doubletree!

Good point about the seasickness!
I think the party will be great fun, thanks to your suggestions.
