Charleston
My husband and I are planning a trip to Charleston to meet up with my sister. We will be there April 27-May 2. We are looking for a nice place to stay (some people say my husband is a hotel snob.)These are some recommendations that we have been given:
1843 Battery Carriage House,Middleton Family B &B,John Rutledge House,Indigo Inn,Hayne House,Vendue Inn. Any comments or recommedations are apperciated. Also, it it still too cool for the beach this time of year? We thought about spending the weekend at the beach. My husband is a golfer. Would it be better to just stay in town? Thanks! |
I reveiwed a couple of your hotels in my trip report:
http://www.fodors.com/forums/pgMessa...56&start=0 The Vendue Inn because of the cool rooftop bar and location or the John Rutledge House would be my first picks. The latter is the nicest out of your choices. No, not to cool at all for the beach. I would stay in town. Peak golf season so your hubby should book his tee time now. Also, any course he picks will make him go out with a threesome because of the time of year. |
If your husband is a hotel snob there is only one choice and that is the Middleton Inn. Its on the Ashley River next to Middleton Plantation, a dozen or so miles north(?) of Charleston. The best modern architecture in all of South Carolina (this from an architect). We've stayed there several times and are always knocked out by the ambiance.
|
Also, if we have a late spring (unlikely) the walk between the Middletoon Inn and Middleton Plantation is a gravel path through literally thousands of azalea. Unforgettable.

Actually, if you are a hotel snob, The Woodlands Resort is the best in the area.
However, The Market Pavillion, Wentworth Mansion, and Charleston Place are all superior to Middleton Plantation only if by location. |
