Charleston...4 days. no kids...go
 

We just booked a deal on SW with their special in late October. We will have a few days to explore. My wife and I briefly hit Charleston with the kids a couple of summers ago, but because of weather and time commitments didn't spend but a few hours there. We will hit a couple of nice places to eat...Fig, Husk, Magnolia come to mind and slight possibility my old roommate and his wife will drive from Virginia to meet us.

If you have about 72 hours over 4 days what do you do if you are into architecture, food, etc. We may drive down to Savannah as well as we did spend a couple of days there with kids and wanted to come back and if so Old Pink House will be on the list along with walking tour of the historic district however at this time I would like to focus on Charleston.

You are in for a treat. Start you morning just walking the historic district. You can stroll and admire to beautiful homes and gardens. We love to start at the battery and just explore. There are so many wonderful places to eat, you have been to several of our favorites. Be certain to take several of the home tours. The museum has a package that you can get at a decent price. Another favorite of ours is a sunset water tour. You see the city from a different view. A plantation tour is always a great time. You are going during a wonderful time of year. The weather should be perfect. Are you staying downtown. It is worth the extra cost to stay in the historic district. To be able to park you car and walk everywhere. We love the French Quarter a lovely inn in a great location.

Have breakfast or lunch at Hominy Grill. FIG & Magnolia are our two favorites.

Have cocktails at Rarebit.

Walk from the Battery, up Church Street, ending at the stunning St. Philip's Church (stop at Goat,Sheep,Cow on Church St. for cheese, wine, sandwiches along the way).

You will want to walk on Meeting and East Bay St. as well. Wander down alleys, like Zig Zag, Bedon's, Longitude lane. (It's a pretty small area)

We have not made hotel arrangements at this time...still waiting for roommate logistics before making that plan. However the Inn at Ellis is either booked for four months or hasnt opened reservations at this time.
We planned on a guided walking tour to begin similar to what we did in Savannah just to get our bearings and hear first hand the local history and culture

Also one thing we have done over the years is get a carticture made so will be looking for an area to get that done while we are there

The walking tour first thing is a great idea. Ed Grimball's tours are well-liked. October is beautiful in the lowcountry.

You might want to tour one of the homes. I like Aiken-Rhett and Edmonston-Alston.

I'm assuming you mean caricature. Sorry I can't help you. If someone is doing it, they'll probably be in the market.

Thanks for the responses so far...we are looking to stay at the Grand Bohemian Hotel unless we find a VBRO rental. Still waiting for other couple to commit but was wondering if this is central to many of the places to visit. I noticed it is just off of King Street but during the season we are going the prices for hotels are high even on weekdays due to high season. Is this a good hotel that is centrally located?

If we head down to Beufort for a night what are general suggestions for dining and accomodations

I have not been for SNOB (other than for drinks) and have not been to Poogan's Porch.

I think the Grand Bohemian is in a good location. It is brand new, so it should be good.

Going to Savannah? Stop in Beaufort for lunch at Griffin Market. IMO, the best Italian food south of NYCity. Right downtown, about 30 seats and a million dollar wine collection.

My restaurant suggestions - Magnolia, Husk, SNOB. Also, have drinks at the rooftop Vendue bar, gorgeous views!

I agree with the Magnolia and Vendue roof top bar suggestions.

We went to Husk earlier this month and it was good, but IMO not nearly as good as FIG, Magnolia or Macintosh.

We like Hominy Grill for lunch.

SNOB has very good clam chowder!

We are taking the Ft Sumter tour at 9:30 am. Can anyone suggest a good breakfast place for me and coffee shop nearby for wife. We have plans to eat after tour but thinking a decnt breakfast might hit the spot

OUr kids absolutely LOVE xiao bao biscuit (they are foodies/restaurant owners). They can't wait to go back.

Dinner at Macintosh 6:30pm with Cocktail Club drinks after


Monday

Breakfast at Hominy Grill

9:30 Ft Sumter tour

Lunch at Fleet Landing (wife not big into seafood so may go somewhere else)may try Obstinate Daughter on Sullivans island but without a car for the trip

Market Area/ Old Slave Mart Museum

Dinner 82 Queen at 7:30

Prohibition/ Rooftop Bar at Vendue for Drinks

Tuesday

Lunch at SNOB (early)

Early Dinner ?? Undecided at this time before leaving for airport

My wife loves to pop in to places for desserts/ice cream after walks so any suggestions on desserts that are cant miss

FIG is all booked up so we may try to walk in for a very early dinner on Tuesday if available

Is there anything that could be done within walking distance of our restaurant choices that we are missing Purposefully left some time for window shopping for wife etc but don't want to miss out on anything not listed
