Charlesmark Hotel Boston
 

We will be at the Charlesmark in July and am wondering if anyone can suggest in which part of the hotel to stay. We generally suggest a corner room to be away from the elevators. Any Charlesmark veterans out there?

Because I live in Boston I have not seen the rooms but only the Martini Bar on street level :) But will be curious what you think because I dont have a guest room. You couldn't find a better location. The Copley subway is acros the street, Copley Place(Neiman Marcus et al) and Prudential center(saks, Legalseafood et al)only steps away. You
are around the corner of Newbury St where you walk down to the last Corner anchored by the Old Ritz now called Taj. You cross the street into the lovely public garden and you end on Charles Street where you can turn left to explore Beacon Hill or walk across and enter the Boston Common. You are also a short walk to be by the Charles River.

Maggi-My teenage daughter and I stayed at Charlesmark last August. I know we stayed in an upper floor room closer to the elevator. We did not have issues with sound. Really loved the price and location of this hotel!

Cigalechanta, can't wait to try that Martini Bar. They are our group's drink of choice! We wrestled with where to stay in the city. I'm glad to hear we made a good choice.

Anonymous, yes I did check Trip Advisor. But I love the Fodors board and trust so many people here that I have grown to like and respect. I'm not always sure of the motives of the reviewers on TA.

Tamryn, what especially did you like about the hotel? I like the hip, modern decor, but I hear the rooms are somewhat small. We are doing the queen rooms because we will be using the pull out twin sofabed. None of the rooms have two beds.

Here's a comment I found about rooms:

"The rooms were quiet, immaculate, and modern. Small, but could comfortably fit three people if you wanted to. The staff seemed your usual mixed bag that you so often find in hotels.
The real draw of the hotel is it's bar/lounge. The upstairs lounge has a nice layout of couches and chairs, and the bar downstairs is hip, without rubbing it in your face. The food was from the restaurant next door (Bangkok Blue, I'm not sure how that works) but was pretty good for "bar" food.
I was dissapointed by their "signature" martinis. I think I had about five (it was one of THOSE nights) and their list of signature martinis was somewhat of a dissapointment. However, when I went off the menu, the waitress (who said she formerly worked at VOX) made me a great martini.
I agree with Jayashree P.'s review. You will want to check it out before it really takes off and you're stuck elbowing through crowds of halter tops and untucked button-downs.
Just make sure if you are making a reservation for the hotel, make sure you specify that you do not want the hotel room located at the back of the lounge. Do they actually give people this room? I can only imagine how noisy and un-private this room would get on a weekend...and if they get really popular, will you have to pay a cover just to get into your own room?

Maggi-I am not sure how many will be in your room. It was just my college looking daughter and me, so there was enough room for us. She pulled out that little bed and as I remember we could still get around the room-a bit tight though. It is not a roomy hotel room, but that is not usually important to me when I am in a city and on the go. The location just could not be beat-right at a T-stop and the greatest shopping and eating just around the corner. The price is quite good as you know. If I was traveling with an "extra" person that I might not be super comfortable with and wanted to hang out together while someone was showering or something, this might not be the right place. In many ways this reminds me of several W Hotels that I have visited if that helps.

Thanks tamryn, that does help a lot. It will just be two of us and we are close friends, so it won't be a problem. I just don't like sharing a bed with anyone other than my hubby.
