Changing terminal from domestic flight to international for a non-us

Hi!

I am flying in from Charleston,SC to JFK in June (UA). I have 5hrs to get from this arrival terminal to the other taking me on a flight to Europe (AY). I am a non-US and I have luggage.
I think that there is enough time to get on the plane home. Any arguments against?

UA (United) doesn't serve JFK. Are you flying somebody else to JFK? Or are you flying UA to Newark?

If you are flying into JFK, you should have more than enough time, but may need to change terminals. If you can clarify who you are flying from Charleston, we can give better advice.

It doesn't make ANY difference that you are not a US citizen. You will have to show your passport to the airline personnel at JFK when you check in; if not you'll probably have to show it at the gate; sometimes you have to do it at both points.

There would be no reason for United to see it unless that is the only ID you have.

I suspect the OP is flying American from Charleston to JFK as American is a parter with Finnair, the airline she's flying to Europe. Also, since American took over USAirways, they have a lot of flights out of SC.

She will need ID in Charleston, for a foreigner, I believe the only acceptable official ID for airlines is a passport.

Definitely possible, but I sort of take it that these are separate tickets. Also, AA doesn't fly to JFK from Charleston.

JetBlue and Delta fly nonstop charleston to JFK.

Regardless of whether one ticket or two, whether they need to collect bags or if they are checked through, etc.

Five hrs is plenty of time to make this change at JFK.

I do not believe Delta will transfer bags to another airline. JetBlue may.

Yes, but is the OP rally flying into JFK? Are they confused about which airline they are taking or which of the 3 NYC airports they are flying into?

If the connection is at JFK it should be OK. But if the flight is into LGA or EWR and the OP has to get to JFK it could be a whole other story.
