Changed plans: Kauai in August?

Due to emergency surgery, I am still at home instead of on the beach in Kauai today. We are thinking of rescheduling for August. I had reservations for Kiahuna Plantation this week. Would you all advise still staying in PoiPu in August, or would the North shore be great for swimming and snorkeling? Those are my two important activities. (It's my first time to Hawaii. I'm planning on hiking Na Pali for a ways, too)
thanks for your help

My preference would be the North shore in August. It's the most beautiful part of the island, IMO, and the beaches are wonderful there then.

Northshore is always great for swimming and snorkeling but the Kiahuna is a great place to stay and Poipu is also a nice area. We like both areas so it depends on your style. Prnceevile has a lot of hotels, condo's to choose from and Hanalei is just a hop skip and jump from Princeville. We have staryed in several places on Kauai and prefer the princeville area condo's. If you are planning on hiking NaPali then stay in NOrthshore.

I would stay at the Kiahuna. My husband and I honeymooned there last October and it was great. The beach is wonderful there (we did lots of snorkeling and we took a surfing lesson on that beach) it's a great area for hanging out, lots of resturants, etc. We had a rental car and drove to the north shore a few times for sightseeing and hiking, the drive is beautiful and not bad at all. Have a GREAT time!

The north shore owns my heart. Stayed in Poipu, Princeville resort, condos, next stop a northshore beach house in Hanalei. I might suggest Kauaivacationrentals.com - cliffs 4-207 for a great 1bdrm at 875/wk.

dwtoy,
I wish you a speedy recovery!((Y))

Kiahuna is a wonderful spot.
Enjoy your trip to the island where there is nothing to do, too much rain and no good restuarants. :-O

Thanks for all the suggstions. It's a tough decision. Both areas look great. Kiahuna is filling up fast, and I can't yet get a doctor's okay for August. I'm trying hard to look on the bright side--more time for anticipation!!
I will try the website for lodging ideas, too.
