Central Park Zoo architecture
 

I'm nostalgic for a day back in 1948 when my second grade class visited the Central Park Zoo and saw a baby Joey kangaroo in his mother's pouch. I doubt I'd see that again during my upcoming trip to New York, but I would be delighted to see the Old (yes, I know, inhumane) Victorian era cages that were in the vicinity of the old stone refreshment stand. Are they still there, or have they been torn down and replaced. And by the way, I'm going for a repeat reunion of the kids I was in Kindergarten to Ninth Grade with, who have morphed into spectacular adults.

Almost all of the old cages were removed when the zoo was rebuilt in 1988.

BTW, I Googled Central Park kangaroo, and it found an article from the Times about a new kangaroo in the zoo, but when I clicked on the article, it was from 1897. "The animals have been loaned for an indefinite period by Mr. Bailey of the Barnum and Bailey circus."
