Central Park Fall Foliage
 

Trying to visit Manhattan at an ideal time to see the peak of fall foliage in the parks.
I know that NYC peaks later than upstate.
Looking at visiting either between 10/30-11/4
Or 11/6-11/11

I know that's so close it may be splitting hairs. But I hear a lot of conflicting reports on when it peaks and when it past peak. So I worry we will either get there when it is still all green and leave right when it turns. Or we will get there just at the end and miss most of the leaves altogether.

Any feedback?

As you can see there are still leaves on the trees and its pretty,but definitely past peak.Every year is a little differen of course, but I think you would get good foliage around 10/30. It will definitely not still be all green.

It's just really hard to tell in advance. I seem to remember it was really late last year - but I would think it should have started by the earlier dates.

That said - I wouldn't make turning leaves in Central Park the only deciding factor. Not sure where you are coming from - but the leaves outside Manhattan tend to turn earlier - often a week or more earlier only an hour or so outside the city.

November is almost always past peak, but when peak occurs depends entirely on the weather. And it's far too early to know that now.

Weather of course determines it; that said, mid October is a much better bet.

So would 10/30 be too late?
I know it's a moving target but from what I heard the foliage peaked last year around 11/5.

The peak IN MANHATTAN is typically later than the surrounding area - and much later than in New England. So if you wan to see areas other than Central Park you need to be more like Oct 15 or perhaps 20.

For JUST Central Park it's more like end of Oct or begin Nov.

BUT - we just don't know at this point. You'll have a better idea when the projections for NE start to turn up in early Sept.

You just need to understand that the city is a "hot spot" and the timing is different even than in the suburbs - never mind an hour up the Hudson.

I guess I never thought about seeing the leaves in Central Park - pretty - but nothing like in the country (for which you would need earlier).

And yes, last year (not a good year) it was around Nov 5 - I'm sure because I love only a block from the Park.

Going in a week. From what I am seeing online Central Park is currently at midpoint.
So I'm thinking I timed it close to peak.

Sorry mid Oct is much too early for Central Park. It's starting to turn now - but we have had a couple of days of heavy rain and chilly - and that can make a huge difference in a couple of days. I would get here by the 30th.

Your early dates are over marathon weekend which is the busiest weekend of the year in NYC.

However, I've run the marathon on multiple occasions and the leaves are always at pick when I'm finishing the race.

At their best the colors in Central Park are fine but nothing to plan around.

Well, coincidentally, we were on the roof of the Metropolitan Museum today and there was very little color. 11/6+ sounds about right.
