Central Coast

We are Northern Californians who have family in Southern California so we have been making the drive back and forth for holidays for 25 years. We always enjoy overnighting somewhere in the middle and have spent many nights in Pismo Beach, Morro Bay, Cambria, San Luis Obispo. Would love to try somewhere new this coming holiday. We just like a moderate priced "motel" walking distance to a dinner place. Any ideas? Anybody ever been to Los Osos?

Yes, we stayed at the Baywood Inn, which is in Baywood Park, a small residential area right next to Los Osos. Seems to me the rate was very good for what we got. It's across the street from a nice Italian restaurant. Don't remember how far off the 101 it was. Montana de Oro state park is nearby, beautiful! Have you tried Paso Robles lately? It's quite spruced up.

We've been to Los Osos - nice little town and the state park was beautiful.

Nice suggestion for Paso Robles. We toured the wineries a few weeks ago. I would suggest EOS, Meridian, Martin & Weyrich and the Peachy Canyon vineyards.

Paso has received quite a bit of press lately in prestigious publications. I would suggest a meal at Buona Tavola. www.btslo.com There is also a location in San Luis Obispo. www.pasowine.com is another good website for the area.

Try www.losososbaywoodpark.org to check out this area. I picked up a SLO destination guide and it lists the Baywood Inn at www.baywoodinn.com ***kim***

Wow! Thanks for all the great info.
It's funny because we always stop to eat in Paso Robles on our drive south but have never stayed there. That area around there is beautiful. Any suggestions for motels/hotels in Paso Robles?
Los Osos sounds good too.
Thanks!

Of course if you want to splurge, there's the Villa Toscana. www.myvillatoscana.com But for something more reasonable, try the Paso Robles Inn. ***kim***

Paso Robles is a good suggestion because it's a charming little town and if you have time, the wineries in the area are excellent. Should you decide to stay in Baywood Park, the restaurant mentioned is called Mare Blu. Another nice place to stay there is the Back Bay Inn.
