Cell Phone choices for Foreign country

I will be spending almost 2 months in Washington DC this summer and maybe part of the fall in New York, and cannot use my canadian cell phone as the roaming charges are ghorrendous. Trac phones gt a bad review, not sure about Go Phones. Help! Any suggestions?

Another option is to call your Canadian cell phone carrier and talk to them - our US carrier was able to provide our dtr with an inexpensive rental phone option for her trip to Spain thru some arrangement they had with some European company - perhaps such an arrangement exists with your carrier or they may be able to offer you a temporary plan without those charges.

If you already have an unlocked GSM phone, you could buy a T-Mobile SIM Activation Kit <http://tinyurl.com/3c2cs6> for $4.99 and buy additional prepaid minutes over the phone. The whole program is called T-Mobile To Go. Check it out.
